Jean Patou was a French fashion designer and perfumer who became famous in the early 1920s. He founded his own fashion house in Paris in 1912 and designed clothes for wealthy clients, including queens and princesses. Patou was also a pioneer in the perfume industry, creating some of the most famous fragrances of the 20th century. He was one of the first perfumers to use synthetic fragrances and introduce new scents such as lily of the valley, lavender and heliotrope. Some of Jean Patou's most famous fragrances are "Joy", "1000" and "Sublime". "Joy" is considered one of the most expensive and luxurious fragrances of all time and is often referred to as the "fragrance of joy". "1000" is a sensual and floral fragrance inspired by the number "1000", which Patou considered the perfect number. "Sublime" is a fresh and light fragrance inspired by the beauty of the French Riviera. Jean Patou also made fashion history by introducing the shortest dress length of the 1920s, later known as the "flapper length." Patou was known for his avant-garde designs and his love of simplicity and elegance. Although Jean Patou died in 1936 at the age of only 49, his legacy in the fashion world and the perfume industry remains to this day.
